Martyn Jacques, mastermind of The Tiger Lillies, has spent decades touring with countless performances. To channel the adrenaline of these shows, he has secretly painted, “to stop himself from going crazy,” as he puts it.
In his studios in London, Athens, and Berlin, Jacques has created a collection of paintings that reveal strange, dark, and humorous stories—much like his songs. These are images of the soul, painted as the soul might paint if it could.
But beware: these works are far from pastel and ethereal. They are bold, intensely colorful, fleshy, drunk, absurd, melancholic, angry, sardonically laughing, vulnerable, and murderous all at once.
From December 13th to 17th, from 14:00 to 22:00, you can admire and acquire Martyn Jacques’ artwork at the POPUP GALLERY at PORGY & BESS in Vienna.
