Alternative cabaret stars The Tiger Lillies are heading to Ukraine, one of the first Western bands to play the country, they will perform two concerts in Lviv 11th of July and Kyiv 13th of July. For these special concerts the Olivier award winning band will present a collection of new songs about Ukraine, written especially for these dates, along with their greatest hits.
The Tiger Lillies have been supporting Ukraine since the first days of the invasion. Having played the country many times in their career the fans there hold a special place in the heart of the band. They are constantly talking about the war on their social media and covering the events happening there, lead singer Martyn Jacques has consistently spoken up for Ukraine to the band’s many fans.
The Tiger Lillies have recorded a new album called UKRAINE which will be released on 21st of July, raising funds for Ukrainians in the war torn country.
Singer, songwriter Martyn Jacques says “Over the last year or more, I have been very active about Ukraine on my Facebook page. I have made paintings and written poems and songs. This is a collection of those songs. The feelings of anger, frustration I have felt. Some of the songs are about people who support Russia. For political, economic, patriotic reasons. Some of the songs are about the arrogant evil and corrupt Putin himself. Some of the songs are about the suffering of Ukrainian people in this horrible war. I feel such sympathy and sadness for the ordinary people who pay with their own lives or the lives of loved ones for the arrogant tzar gangster in the Kremlin.”
With an international reputation for being one of the foremost avant-garde bands in the world, the Grammy nominated Tiger Lillies never cease to surprise, shock and entertain with their inimitable musical style, conjuring up the macabre magic of pre-war Berlin and fusing it with the savage edge of punk. This unique, Brechtian street opera trio tour the world playing concerts and theatre shows such as The Tiger Lillies Christmas Carol, The Ancient Mariner and the West End hit Shockheaded Peter.
The album was designed by Ukrainian animation artist Mykyta Lyskov, who lives in Dnipro. Mykyta says: It is very important that such a legendary group as The Tiger Lillies supports Ukraine in the struggle for independence against Russian aggression. In the design of the album, I used my drawing, which I drew while under shelling in my hometown Dnipro. We are being killed in our own country, we need European support, we need weapons, we need fighter jets!
