Shockheaded Peter
Shockheaded Peter
PREORDERS - FIRST 200 COPIES ARE YELLOW AND SIGNED BY THE BAND
Oh, what could be sweeter, than the return of... Shockheaded Peter?
Out of print and unavailable for some while, the album from the award-winning stage show is now released on vinyl for the first time. As a new issue this also marks our 50th release, and what more fitting album for that milestone?
As many of you naughty girls and boys will already know, the songs on Shockheaded Peter were adapted from the distinctly grisly stories originally written to warn German children to watch their behaviour in Dr. Heinrich Hoffmann's book Struwwelpeter. Some 150 years later the tales were transformed into a musical theatre production in London, with live action, puppets and the Tiger Lillies performing the specially written songs. Horribly successful, the show won an Olivier Award in 2002 for Best Entertainment, and the same year Martyn Jacques won Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.
For the new LP the original cover design is reproduced with added scorch marks, and an insert is included for instructional purposes and for those who wish to sing along. The record itself is in a standard black vinyl version, as well as a sickly, unspeakable yellow version, which is limited to only 200 copies and the sleeve for these has been signed by all three members of the band.
Launch date is 22 November but we are inviting pre-orders as of now, and please note that orders for the yellow version are strictly limited to one per customer.
And remember now, don't suck your thumbs...
ABOUT
The demented children's stories of Heinrich Hoffmann's Struwwelpeter, mated with the twisted music of the Tiger Lillies. Shocking songs of naughty girls and boys, cautionary tales to chill the blood, all from the two-times Olivier-award winning musical theatre show.
Dr. Heinrich Hoffmann, a Frankfurt 'medical man of the lunatic asylum', wrote and illustrated Struwwelpeter (Shockheaded Peter) more than 150 years ago because he couldn't find anything on the shelves to fire the imagination of his children.
SHOCKHEADED PETER is the collective nightmare of the visionary direction and design team of Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch (co-founders of London's Improbable Theatre) and the underworld's favourite cabaret act, the Tiger Lillies, led by the bizarre and beautiful falsetto of Martyn Jacques. Set in a distorted Victorian toy theatre, SHOCKHEADED PETER evokes a lost world of theatrical illusion, a music-box spinning out of control; it is an advent calendar with a different horrible surprise waiting behind every door.
