Swiss director Dominique de Rivaz has released a new film called 'Luftbusiness' that features music by Martyn Jaques / Tiger Lillies. Out now to buy on DVD.
Looking for easy money, three young dropouts auction themselves on the Internet. One sells his future, one sells his past. The third sells his soul. What starts off as an unlikely trick turns into a nightmare when they discover they've sold their very existences.
“Is it really a question of believing or not believing in the soul?
Has it not always been a question of thinking of it to see what would come of it?"

We present a newly discovered clip for you. Probably you won't have seen it unless you lived in Wales in the mid 1990's
Here the Tiger Lillies play 'Hell' to a very sick man. He obviously feels much better on hearing it. The clip is from an obscure Welsh TV show from either 1995 or 96, not quite sure and features the lead singer from the Flying Pickets, Phil Hibbard.

A fantastic review of The Tiger Lillies Freakshow in Girona, Spain from Blasfemia (avui.cat). Please forgive the dodgy Google translation from the original Catalan:
No place better to the Municipal Theatre of Girona with its comfortable armchairs and red velvet, to inject an overdose of staff irreverence. Some had to remain confused by the brutal onslaught, and perhaps should be grateful for a frank warning sign at the entrance: "If you are highly religious precepts, if you believe in animal rights, if shocked with human prostitution, with eschatology, if you feel horrified by the monsters or if you are a lover of easy offense, let it be, do not pass this wonderful company. "
But then neither would have been fortunate in having made the deal with this great delicious trio The Tiger Lillies, horror, nor any of the oddities of raw Freakshow.

On the 19th October The Tiger Lillies played a stunning concert at the Cité de la Musique in Paris. The band performed a set of songs followed by a live soundtrack to 'The Ballad of Sexual Dependency', a critically acclaimed series of images by world famous photographer Nan Goldin. It was a truly memorable night with the band and Nan receiving a standing ovation. This is what LaMonde had to say:
'this set of photographs work as a film with characters. A story without words, fifty minutes, magnified by the music of The Tiger Lillies, a dark atmosphere of crazed cabaret. Martyn Jacques, made-up face, singing with his husky tenor refrain "Sexual Dependency" it is a fragile moment of grace ...'.

Ever since the wild, out-of-left-field sensation of Shockheaded Peter in the late 1990s, the Tiger Lillies (who wrote and performed the songs based on Heinrich Hoffmann’s cautionary tales) have been searching for a show of their own that would approach that “junk opera”’s success. Whether shows such as Punch And Judy lacked resources or some more vital spark, their presentations in Britain never really made the grade. More successful, by all accounts, were their enterprises in German-speaking and central Europe, of which Freakshow is the latest, embarking now on a major tour after some exploratory dates last year.

Admired by the great and good of comedy and always a hit with audiences, you might think the Tiger Lillies would be perfect for television. Chris McCall asks why their often-shocking material tends to be overlooked.

In the past six months, British television has broadcast a shark being dissected, a man attempting to eat a seven pound sausage and Michael Winner being willingly invited into people’s homes.
Such are the depths it is prepared to sink to, you would be forgiven for thinking that the boundaries marking what is and is not acceptable viewing were abolished in TV land a long time ago.
But you would be wrong. We, the feeble viewing public, apparently must still be protected from the filth perpetuated by bands such as The Tiger Lillies.

The Tiger Lillies are a band for whom the word ‘unique’ was invented.
For the past 21 years, they have been peddling their wares around the world, attracting ever-growing audiences in the process. The trio of Martyn Jacques, Adrian Stout and Adrian Huge play songs which spin giddily around a dark and twisted carousel, taking influence from British vaudeville, punk, gypsy folk music and burlesque, whilst managing to be utterly original at the same time.
With a large catalogue of recorded material behind them – including the renowned Shockheaded Peter and the Grammy-nominated The Gorey End – last year saw The Tiger Lillies delight a sell-out Fringe crowd with a ‘greatest hits’ set of twisted tales and disturbing ditties.
